Raghunathan is an academic, corporate executive, author, columnist and a hobbyist. He taught finance at the Indian Institute of Management, Ahmedabad, for nearly two decades, until 2001. He switched career as a banker for the next four years, serving as the President of ING Vysya Bank, in Bangalore. From January 2005 to September 2018, he was the CEO of GMR Varalakshmi Foundation, which over his tenure, he steered towards several prestigious awards.
He is currently Director, Indian campus of Schulich School of Business (York University, Toronto) in Hyderabad.
Raghunathan is a renowned author and columnist in India and currently blogs for the Times of India. He has authored over 15 books, including Games Indians Play, and nearly 600 papers and articles. He blogs for Times of India.
He sits on many boards and is an Adjunct Professor in universities abroad. He holds a doctorate from IIM, Calcutta. He has featured among the top 50 Global Indian Management Thinkers of Thinkers Magazine for 2013, 2014 and 2015.
He probably has the largest collection of old and antique padlocks in India, has played chess at all-India level, and was briefly a cartoonist for a national daily. He is married to Meena Raghunathan – a CSR professional.
